What to bring
What to bring
Whilst it is not possible to stock every food available we do stock a large selection of dog & cat foods, including some puppy/kitten varieties.
However, if your dog has specific dietary needs – such as a medical condition – or a sensitive tummy which reacts badly to a sudden change in diet, you are welcome to bring your own food
Please talk to us as early as possible so that we can make the necessary arrangements.
If your pet is on medication we are happy to continue with that. However, as it is essential that there are no mistakes, we must insist on written instructions.
We can provide a variety of beds and bedding – plastic beds, vet bed, blankets and even duvets for the elderly – depending on the needs of each pet and the weather. We also recognise that something that smells of home can be comforting in an unfamiliar place and you are welcome to bring a bed or blanket. We will wash the bedding if it becomes damp/dirty.
Each pen & kennel can be individually heated in the colder weather so we can keep them snug. Heating is on a thermostat so that of the temperature drops, the heating comes on
Toys and scratching posts (for cats clearly!) are available and if you wish to bring in familiar things from home to help them settle you would be most welcome. Just don’t bring anything too precious as all items are left at the owners’ risk.
It is important that dogs, in particular, and cats have the opportunity for mental and physical stimulation, especially if they are with us for some time. Like us they need new and different experiences to prevent boredom setting in. We aim to do this in a number of ways depending on the age and temperament of the dog. Longer walks to have an opportunity to find new and possibly exciting smells. Kongs and Likimats are useful ways to introduce new tastes and textures. For the smaller dogs we now have a poly tunnel where dogs from the same household can run about and possibly chase balls (or each other) safely. In summer, like everyone else, we get the paddling pool out. Different plants such as lavender or valerian provide calming scents. Sadly we can’t let cats out but we do take the opportunity to play with them or provide different toys.

It helps us care for your pets if you can give us as much information about them as possible. Obvious things are age and preferred food (in case we need to tempt the appetite until they settle down) but it also helps to know how they react to other dogs, any medical history or recent accidents or injuries we should keep an eye on.
It is also important that we know the name of the veterinary practice you use and an emergency contact number, for yourself or a representative, especially if you are holidaying abroad. You may also wish to consider whether you want me to contact the vet in case of an emergency or talk to you first.
If an animal becomes unwell in our care we will try to use your vet if we can but if, for whatever reason, that is not possible, we will get your pet emergency care as swiftly as possible.
As an extra service, we do offer to bathe your dog and clip nails.
